We are proud to be a collection-point for Early Essentials. This organisation’s goal is to give a helping hand to as many women as possible who have a newborn baby and are in desperate need of even the most basic of supplies.
The women are referred to EE from either their midwife, health visitor, social worker or charity, they are 32+ weeks pregnant and also fall into one of the following categories: Homeless; Refugee/seeking asylum; Fleeing domestic abuse; In serious financial crisis. The health professionals generally report to EE that the women they pick for help are typically destitute, nearing the end of their pregnancy and quite literally have nothing for when their baby arrives.
A general major concern for the health professionals caring for the women is that their babies will not have a safe place to sleep when born, therefore the hampers are packaged into Moses baskets with a brand new mattress The hampers are jam packed with clothes, blankets, nappies, wipes, breast pads, maternity pads, toiletries for mum, toiletries for baby, toys, a towel, snowsuit/coat, a chocolate treat, a gift set and whatever extra goodies they are able to add.
Since sending out their first hamper in March 2015 EE have now given out 494 hampers to the most desperate pregnant women. They are finding that the number of referrals are going up year on year as the level of need appears to be increasing.
If you are able to contribute to Early Essentials, here’s a list of what they could really do with for these precious mums:
Shampoo / Conditioner
Newborn and 0-3m clothes (in good condition)
